While working on the Blount Lumber Company book we came across this newspaper article.
Sandy Creek News: April 14, 1949

Land Procured to Install Tank for Joint Waterworks:

Arrangements have been completed for the procurement of land in the village of Lacona, a part of the E. K. Barlow property, for the erection of an elevated tank in the Lacona-Sandy Creek joint waterworks development. The engineer, Harry Andrews of Fulton, is drawing up detailed specifications and plans preparatory to start of work on the project.

The Blount Lumber Company and the Blount Parker Corporation are giving their $50,000 contribution to the joint waterworks, in kind, rather than in money, it was announced. They are purchasing the tank and paying for its erection, thereby saving time and expense of going through bidding procedures required in connection with government expenditures.

Stop by and see the Blount Historic Marker on DeMott Street, Lacona and get a picture of you and your family. We are making a poster board for the fair and can add it along with the dedication marker photos. I am in the office at BPE (Sandy Creek Town Hall) every Friday from 9 to 2 and need help to identify photos and am looking for memories from workers. It does not have to be a page long, just a line or two for the "Memories" chapter in the book. Please stop by, Phyllis LeBeau and Irene Fuller worked at Blount and are in every Friday and would love to visit and share their memories with you. Maybe you have a photo to share, please bring it in! Coffee is at 10am.
