Blount Lumber Company Historic Marker: (Pomeroy Foundation) I recently wrote a grant and have been approved for a historic road side marker to be placed on the site of the old Blount Lumber Company property. I will keep the public informed by this column and face-book as to when it will be installed.

Meanwhile, I am researching a book to document this company and its workers. Many pictures of workers need to be identified including the one in this column. This photo may be hard to identify here but a much larger picture is hung in the meeting room at the town hall. Stop by and see who you can identify.

While researching the book we found many interesting newspaper items. For example: “Blount Company is making Play Yards “The new product is less than 4 feet square with wooden spindles on the four sides, standing about two feet high. The yard consists of a wooden floor and the entire structure may be folded and stored away in a small place. It is designed for use either in the house or on the lawn.” Sure sounds like a play pen….
