I was recently invited to Jefferson County Historical Society to share the history of Sandy Creek and genealogical resources. I had a 72 slide power point program and was happy with the response I received. I shared the history of our town which included some interesting facts.

First settlers, Indian relics, “Washingtonville”, past historians, Sandy Creek News/Holstein Friesian World, Sketches (the beginning of the genealogy files), Blount Lumber Company 1894-1993, local abandoned cemeteries and the clean-up/repair process, local history books, 4 historic markers, before and after photos, business places, schools, California Block built with money made at the “gold rush”, World War I whippet tank and troops camping at the fairgrounds, Sandy Creek Fair – 3 weddings – old photos, Sandy Creek Wood Manufacture Company and wooden plates made there, Greene Point, Captain Lindsey Greene and the “sea monster”, George Best – Hermit of Sandy Pond, Village histories including before and after pictures, Rail City Museum, Salisbury Hotel, Sandy Creek House, Lacona House, the Railroad, etc. So much history!

Flowers are being planted at our cemeteries for Memorial Day,
