Village Players was organized in September 1965 with 20 members. This was a result of a wave of enthusiasm after the group had staged a production the previous spring for a Service Club project. The first plays were performed at the school auditorium, but later had use of the Blount Parker Employee Recreation Hall. Finding a place to perform, rehearse and store equipment is one of the major problems for amateur theatrical groups.

Membership averaged about 30, and included people from surrounding towns so Village Players became an area project. Meetings were held once a month, they were self supporting, although most theatrical groups had outside help. One major production was given each year and four summer plays with emphasis on teenage participation. The group had open houses to promote interest, given one act plays and participated in the Grange Festival and Eastern Star Strawberry Festival.
