This was once on display in the atrium of the Waterman Theatre in Tyler Hall at SUNY Oswego and recently returned to Sandy Creek. It was among many others that Rosemary Nesbitt had gathered for history on opera houses and theatres around the county. The display was taken down many years ago and long stored in the marine museum.

Originally built in 1831 by the Methodist Congregation and the first church building in the Town of Sandy Creek, it served as a house of worship until the completion in 1879 of the present brick church. For many years before and after the turn of the century, it was the Allen Opera House, but after World War 1 the one-night small-town stands by professional touring companies were beginning to prove unprofitable. The Sandy Creek Grange No. 127 purchased the building. About 1960 the building was razed for the construction of Route 81 and the Grange moved to its current location.

Town of Sandy Creek - Villages of Sandy Creek and Lacona – Doctors – Optometrists - Dentists - has been published and is available through the Town Clerk’s/Village Clerk’s office or Historians Office.
