Photo: Rt. 81 construction 1960

This view of the construction of Rt. 81 shows the exit ramp on Harwood Drive. The house shown in the foreground is owned by the VanRy family, Summerville Funeral Home is to their right. Across the road the roof of the house next to the town hall, the town hall, the Insurance building and the Congregational Church steeple is visible in the center of the photo.

The History Center has lost another dear friend and one of the first volunteers to step forward in 2001 to help with the preservation and organization of the town history files and artifacts, Frances Bellinger. Frances was meticulous in her efforts at documenting records with the emphasis on easy retrieval. The genealogy file folders carry a "see also" reference, a painstaking addition but so necessary to ensure every researcher can locate other surnames connected to their families. Frances worked with us for a few years until her health worsened. She will be missed.
