Scott graduated from Sandy Creek Central School in 1989, the son of Claude and Thelma Snyder. He was a Marine (1992-1995), attained the rank of Lance Corporal and served in Desert Storm and Okinawa, Japan. He died October 26, 2008 of cancer and at that time the family established the “Scott M. Snyder Memorial Award” at Sandy Creek Central School in his honor.

The United States Marine Corps Birthday is celebrated every year on November 10th by Marines and veterans all over the world. Every year, the Marine Corps celebrates on November 10th (the official founding date of the Continental Marines in 1775) to honor and celebrate the brave men and women, past and present, who defend our country as U.S. Marines. The birthday is celebrated with a formal Birthday Ball with a cake cutting ceremony where the first piece of cake goes to the oldest Marine present and the second piece goes to the youngest. The first formal Birthday Ball took place in Philadelphia in 1925.

The Veterans 1960-current book is being edited and finalized. We have found 306 Veterans and hope we have contacted everyone who wants to be in the book. The book goes to print October 25th and will be available at the VFW in Lacona on Sunday, November 10th when we honor these veterans and all who served our country to keep us free. The reception for these veterans begins at 1pm. Please, take a moment to thank a veteran for his/her service!
