Photo: Rae Allen shown with the Girl Scout Christmas Trees The 10th Annual Christmas Tree Event has ended and eight Girl Scout troops participated.

This past week the girls enjoyed a party at the soup kitchen on Salisbury Street to celebrate another successful year and pick up trees. The theme this year was Christmas around the world and the trees were decorated with wooden candles, animals from around the world, flags of different countries and Christmas bulbs decorated with world maps. The trees will be distributed to a needy family or elderly person in time for Christmas Day. Contact Rae Allen for more information 387-3666 and to suggest a person or family in need of Christmas cheer.

The Veterans 1960 to current book was a tribute to our veterans and the culmination of a seven military book series I began in 2003. Someone asked where we got the names from; most came from the Sandy Creek News, VFW members, family and friends, the History Center volunteers who knew contact information, veterans who called to see if their friend or school “buddy” was included and people who read my columns. Each military book took 3 years to research and it was our goal to include all veterans who wanted to be in the book.
