From the Archives: Sandy Creek News: August 20, 1964: The Blount Lumber Company closed down Monday night and will open up again Saturday. So many of its employees desired to attend the fair that the company was compelled to shut down, although rushed with orders.

Memories of the fair by Rufus B. Potter: “The Sandy Creek Fair once a year was a great event and as a small boy I went with my grandparents. Mr. Potter was one of the superintendents and everybody came early and took their lunches. Farmers left early to get home for milking. Hotels were jammed. Farmer boys enjoyed the cattle at the sheds and some of the boys lost their money playing the shell game; a sucker born every minute. Everybody met old friends and had a good visit. Henry Stevens was blind and Ralph his son, led his father around among the cows. Henry could tell their colors, black from white, by passing his hands over their bodies.”

“No Common War” author Luke Salisbury’s reading at the Ainsworth Library was interesting and enjoyed by all who attended. The Sandy Creek History Center will hold an open house on Saturday October 19th.

We are looking for past business, years and location, for the villages of Lacona and Sandy Creek. We are currently working on Lacona businesses and compiling information for Sandy Creek Village and Sandy Pond. Share your information and photos.
